What Does Our Knee Program Entail?

There are many offices that treat knee pain. But few with the experience, options, and technology that we have at Bod Medical.
Dr. Bradley Bodner is a highly experienced physician that has personally performed thousands of knee procedures. Unlike other offices that rush you in and out, Dr. Bodner sets aside a full hour for each new patient consultation. We have many treatment options and he feels that it is important to individualize a treatment plan for each patient. We specialize in giving non-surgical treatment options. Dr. Bodner began performing knee injections and regenerative medicine more the 20 years ago. It would be difficult to find a more experienced physician for non-surgical knee pain options.

We might just have more options for knee pain then any other facility in the country. We strive to provide a comprehensive treatment plan for your knee pain and often combine multiple options to get optimal results! Our goal is for our patients to avoid surgery and we have an extremely high success rate! The vast majority of our patients see a very significant improvement in their symptoms.

Traditional knee injections-

Knee Injections

Traditional knee injections

Dr. Bodner has a variety of what he refers to as traditional knee injections. These are the types of injections you would receive if you went to most orthopedic surgeons. Unlike most orthopedic surgeons, Dr.Bodner performs all of his injections under fluoroscopic guidance. Without fluoroscopy, your doctor hopes that what he is injecting gets to the right spot. With fluoroscopy, Dr. Bodner knows the injectable is getting to the right spot-making the injection both more effective and less painful (Dr. Bodner can avoid bones and painful areas)!

Visco-supplementation injections (gel injections)

Did you know that studies show that Viscosupplementation (gel) injections delay the need for knee replacement?-and that the more “gel” injections you have , the more you prolong that delay! Often referred to as “gel” injections, these injections provide lubrication and cushioning for the knee joint.
As mentioned above, studies show that these injections not only reduce pain, but actually significantly delay the need for knee replacement surgery. Dr. Bodner believes these injections not only reduce pain, but slow down the progression of arthritis by reducing the friction in your knee.
But not all facilities performing these injections are equal, and Dr. Bodner believes there are several extremely important factors for visco-supplementation injections to be successful.

Visco-supplementation injections (gel injections)

First, the use of image guidance such as fluoroscopy is of the upmost importance. Without fluoroscopy there is no way to verify that the gel actually ends up in the joint! Studies show that without fluoroscopy, even the best physicians miss the joint often! And if the “gel” doesn’t end up in your joint, it’s not going to be of any help to you. Dr. Bodner performs his injections under fluoroscopy, in order to provide the best results with the least amount of pain. Many patients claim his injections are near painless! Fluoroscopy helps as you can see where your injecting to avoid bones and areas of pain, and to confirm that your product ends up in the joint.

Equally important is the experience of the injector. Dr. Bodner has performed thousands of knee injections with the use of fluoroscopy. Skill comes with experience and there are few physicians more experienced.

Also important is what gel is injected. There are multiple options and differences between them all. Choosing the right gel to fit your individual issues can significantly affect your results. Dr. Bodner has the experience to help determine the best gel for you.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy

Intra-articular prolotherapy injections reduced pain, improved function and quality of life in patients with Knee Osteoarthritis. The procedure is straightforward and safe; the adherence and satisfaction were high.
Source : Ann Fam Med 2020;18:235-242
This is the conclusion of a new paper on Prolotherapy published in ANNALS OF FAMILY MEDICINE in 2020
Prolotherapy involves the injection of a proliferative solution into an area with the intention of strengthening tendons and ligaments and rebuilding damaged areas. While we are learning more and more that cortisone breaks things down causing symptoms to worsen, Prolotherapy and other regenerative treatments goal is to strengthen and build!
Read the article on 'Dextrose Prolotherapy for Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial' by The National Library of Medicine.
The conclusion of the study linked above is that, Prolotherapy resulted in clinically meaningful sustained improvement of pain, function, and stiffness scores for knee osteoarthritis!
Dr. Bodner has been performing Prolotherapy for over 20 years and finds it to be an excellent option for many patients.

Regenerative medicine/ “Stem cell” injections

Advances in science and technology have now given us multiple options for regenerative medicine. The idea of “stem cell injections“ was only science fiction until recently.
Professional athletes such as Tiger Woods, Rafael Nadal, and Cristiano Ronaldo have used stem cells to recover from torn ligaments and degenerative back pain —without surgery and often within weeks rather than months. 1
All told, well over 1 million people have seen their lives transformed – or even rescued – by stem cells.2
“In a nutshell, stem cells are the bodies repair kit. Unlike other cells, they can divide and renew themselves for a lifetime. What’s more, like a cellular skeleton key, they can unlock an almost limitless array of healing powers. They can differentiate into whatever type of cell our body needs.” Anthony Robbins, Life Force , 2022.

How it works:

How it works:

The FX-635 uses low level laser diode arms to precisely target pain centers. The body absorbs the light energy, which encourages the cell’s mitochondria to produce more ATP and promote natural healing within the cell. Because the laser merely stimulates the cells to promote healing naturally, the FX-635 provides pain relief and reduces inflammation with no adverse side effects!
